Governing Council

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE 2012

HB228 Public School Funding Formula-  This is a bill currently being debated in Santa Fe and would dramatically reduce charter school funding to schools. Would you please e-mail the following legislators on the House Education Committee and tell them to OPPOSE the passage of Substitute HB228.  Feel free to write your own e-mail or use the text below. Some talking points:

-   Changes to the funding formula will affect how much money charter schools receive.
-   This bill has not had any study conducted by the PED, the LESC, or any charter school. No input was provided as to the impact of this bill.
-   This bill is making major changes without consideration of the impact. We recommend that the bill be sent to study by the LESC during the interim

 Dear Representative,

As a supporter of charter schools in New Mexico, I respectfully request that you OPPOSE Substitute HB228. As you know, charter schools are providing a quality, innovative education to over 16,000 students in New Mexico.  This bill would drastically reduce funding for all charter schools, endangering their very existence.  Again, I urge you to OPPOSE Substitute HB228.
